Do you know for certain…?

Saved.

Born again.

Redeemed.

Entered into the Kingdom of God.

God has given many descriptions of the wondrous event of the conversion of a human soul. But regardless of what it is called, the way to it is always the same, and the offer is made to anyone willing to come to God His way. Anyone willing to ask the Lord Jesus Christ to forgive them of their sin and to take ownership of their soul can receive all that God has to offer through His Son.

You as a human being already qualify for God’s offer of salvation. He has already proven His love for you when He gave Jesus Christ for you, and He has already paid for your soul on the cross. The road to salvation is a plain and simple one designed by God Himself to allow anyone willing to follow it. All God requires from you is that by faith you accept His gift. He requires that you pray to Jesus Christ and put your trust in Him. If you do this you will have everlasting life with God.

For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”    Romans 10:13

A complete understanding of all necessary steps along God’s way of salvation is found along the “Romans Road”, a handful of Scriptures from the writings of the Apostle Paul to the believers in first century Rome. Through these four simple verses we can understand the way, make sense of the process, and take the appropriate action so that we know for certain that we have exercised faith and are saved from perishing.

Here then is The Romans Road way to salvation:

Romans Road

First the bad news…

For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God,   Romans 3:23

None of us are good enough, righteous enough, moral enough, or godly enough to reach Heaven on our own. Although there are many “good people” in the world, God’s standard is absolute perfection, and only Jesus Christ the perfect Son of God can measure up to His requirements.

Would you agree that “nobody is perfect” as we say, and that includes you? Would you admit that you have thought, spoken, and acted in ways that are against the laws of Holy God? If so, that is the definition of sin, and disqualifies you from reaching Heaven through your own merit.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.    Romans 6:23

“Wages” are the payment a worker has earned and rightfully deserves. When we do the “work” of sin by breaking the law of God, we earn and rightfully deserve to receive the “wages of sin” which is death. Because these are spiritual words, “death” includes not only the physical but the spiritual as well.

Now death is separation. When a person dies, their spirit is separated from their body, as they are separated from the world of the living. Spiritual death is separation from spiritual life, and that means separation from God. To live and die in such a state of separation from God is the worst possible tragedy, and the truest meaning of hell.

But the good news is that God has a gift for you that can change all that. His gift is not payment for work; it is not what you deserve nor have earned. It is not a wage, but a gift. And His free gift to you is eternal life, so that instead of separation from Him you can be united with Him in this life and the one to come.

This gift is yours through “Jesus Christ our Lord”.

That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.   Romans 10:9

What do you honestly believe in your heart about the Lord Jesus Christ? Do you believe He is the Son of God who lived the perfect life for you? Do you believe He died for you on the cross, paying death’s penalty for your sin? Do you believe He was buried for three days? Do you believe that He arose on the third day showing that He has conquered sin, death, Satan, and the grave?

Then consider: if what separates you from God is sin and death, and if Jesus Christ died for your sin and came back from the dead, then He is just what you need.

Having now established what you believe in your heart, your act of faith must be to “confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus”.

To confess to God in prayer that you take Jesus Christ as your Lord means more than just saying the words; it is an act of submission to His authority.

The word “Lord” signifies the person who is in authority over you. Your Lord is your master, king, owner, boss, and God. So to ask Jesus Christ to be your Lord is to ask Him to be in charge of you, responsible for you, and in authority over you.

In the days when these Scriptures were written, Roman citizens called the Emperor “Lord”, slaves called their owner “Lord”, and Christian believers called Jesus Christ “Lord” in exactly the same way. But when you make Jesus Christ your Lord you don’t get a tyrant to rule over you or a taskmaster to enslave you, but a loving God who saves you.

This is what God requires; this is how you receive His free gift of salvation. And He has given you His Word on it, for the Word of God says in this Scripture that you “will be saved”. He doesn’t say you may be saved, or that some are saved, or that if you meet further requirements you can be saved. No, Almighty God has given you His Word that if you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that you want Jesus Christ to be your Lord, then you will be saved.

Period.

For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”   Romans 10:13

Have you ever prayed to the Lord Jesus Christ in such a manner? Have you ever put yourself under His authority, asked Him to forgive your sin and to save your soul?

If not, you can do that very thing right now. No matter who you are, where you are, or what you have done, God invites you to come to Him in prayer. He has created you, loved you, given His Son for you, and gotten His message to you for this very reason. He awaits only your prayer of faith so that He can bestow upon you His glorious gift of eternal life.

You will be saved; born again; redeemed; enter the Kingdom of God.

He is listening for you right now.

Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.    Jeremiah 33:3

Dear Friend,
